If you go to the homelink website ( ).you will see references to a "bridge" for older UGDO units that won't communicate with newer GDOs. You can purchase a HOMELINK REPEATER (aka "bridge") that will convert your old UGDO (universal garage door opener) HOMELINK signal so that it can communicate with the new GDOs that have the newer "protocol". If one installs a new GDO (garage door opener).there's another go-around, too. Following the recommended procedures for my Genie garage door opener, I placed the remote in Intellicode 1 mode before programming the HomeLink device in the car. My remote control is a G3T-A and is software version 2.0.7. Regardless, the newer part # works for me.įWIW, my garage door opener is a Genie PowerMax 1500 it was installed around 2013, and the serial number on it also contains a 2013 date. What is the difference between the two models? I don't know, but I can imagine that the HomeLink protocol has likely evolved over the years and that the newer part # has been upgraded accordingly. ![]() Simply disconnect the old one, and plug the new one in and put the panel back first, then the light. Installing it was a breeze I recommend prying out the overhead lights first watch out though as the tabs on the panel that holds the HomeLink device are fragile on a 18+ year old car. I bought it knowing there was no guarantee it would work but knowing I could afford to take a chance at that price. Last week I on ebay I found the latest version available for $22 plus shipping. The latest compatible part as of this writing is 61316981941. The original part # on mine is 61318380869. My E38 was produced 4/2000 and is a 2001 MY. ![]() Problem solved! And the well documented programing sequence worked correctly the first time! What did I have to do? A new programming sequence? No!Īll I had to do was upgrade the HomeLink device that came with my car to the latest model available. ![]() Today I finally got my car's HomeLink device to work. I know I am not the only one that has struggled to get the HomeLink device in their car working with their garage door opener.
